You know, it's just mandatory to go to whatever pier is closest when you go to the beach. Technically, this pier is in Ocean Grove, not Asbury Park, but it's really only a hop, skip, and a jump away. No, seriously, though, probably only a couple blocks. The boardwalk kind of connects the two little towns together but the aesthetics of each town are quite different.

The boardwalk, Asbury Park, New Jersey
We spent the majority of our daytime adventures on the boardwalk of Asbury Park. Like any beach, I guess it's the main attraction, even though there isn't too much going on there nowadays, especially in the winter. There were lots of abandoned areas, with beautiful murals, and of course, the usual, like over-priced touristy shops and yummy little seaside eateries. My favorite spot in perhaps all of Asbury Park is the Casino. It's checkerboard floor and artwork covered walls are just so very charming, but it's truly just a skeleton of something even more beautiful that once existed. This building housed a carousel, bumper cars, skee ball, a fun house, and lots of other arcade games. From what I've read it was the real gem of this little town and no one can fathom how it all fell to such despair. There is still a magical, special, and historical significance about this place.

Ferret hangout
On Sunday's, I typically head home to Browsnville. It's my day to visit my parents, sister, and their animals, and wash some clothes and enjoy a dinner with the family. I usually bring the ferrets along because it's honestly rare they spend that much time in their cage, unless they have to, like when Michael and I are both at work, because we are usually home. This particular hangout happened the day after Hans and Lux's Birthday party earlier this month. We had been watching Michael's brothers two ferrets, Chico and Furfur, that weekend, too. So naturally, they came too. I'm glad our ferret have "friends" and lots of time to be social. I'm very please I got a couple cute shots this day because having all seven at once is sometimes too chaotic to get good pictures!

Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, Asbury Park, New Jersey
One afternoon, we decided to do a little exploring in the hotel before we wandered outside. It's a pretty large hotel. There are several huge ballrooms. It kept us pretty occupied for a while. We found some dead end, dimly lit hallways, storage rooms, and stairwells. A little bit creepy. Kind of reminded me of The Shining. Ha ha. Just kidding. This hotel is seriously beautiful and I can't imagine staying anyplace else when visiting Asbury Park, New Jersey.
